We Restore the Soil and Habitats
Restoring the SoilSome of our teachers learned about vermicomposting from our Green Steps mentor of the York Soil and Water Conservation District. Those teachers taught a few of their students how to make worm bins and to appreciate the importance of vermicomposting. In turn, each student passed on their knowledge to others in their class as they continue to maintain their vermicomposting habitats. The 5th Grade Green Team members made posters to educate other students about vermicomposting and hung them on our Environmental bulletin board.
Restoring HabitatsParent volunteers planted pollinator plants and bushes in the front garden bed at DBES. Our Green Team hung a mason bee hut in that bed in order to encourage pollination to maintain and restore plant growth of pollinator plants in our area. The student News Team is educating the other students at our school with announcements about this project.
